We stayed at the Ad Astra which is a villa situated on the largest English garden in Italy. It’s very much what you’re looking for.

Edit: largest private garden in Europe.

One day in Shanghai: Yu Garden or World Expo Cultural Park?

Or will I have enough time to see both before my flight at 3:30? Planning on leaving hotel at 11:45ish to the airport. Ideally in the morning, I’d like to grab a coffee, some kind of breakfast street food (if anyone could help me out with names, I’d appreciate it! ) and see one of the two. There’s more street food at Yu Garden from my understanding, but I’m staying near Nanjing Road so I’ll have plenty of options.

Thank you!

Renaissance Yu Garden Hotel room types and amenities

First time in their Deluxe Room, those huge windows showing off Shanghai’s skyline totally wowed me. They’ve got all kinds of rooms – Executive Suites, Club Level – all with a nice Chinese touch.

Comfy work desks and fancy marble bathrooms make both business folks and vacationers happy. Sarah wrote on Tripadvisor that the awesome shower and super soft bed made her flight tiredness disappear. Marriott’s latest survey shows nearly 9 in 10 guests loved how clean the rooms were and all the handy tech stuff like USB ports and smart TVs.

Renaissance Yu Garden Hotel dining options review

Hey food lovers! Their restaurant Feng He does great local Shanghai food along with international classics – all day long. I can still taste their Peking duck – seriously good, just like the best duck places in town.

Want something cozier? The lobby bar mixes great cocktails with Chinese herbs for something different. Business traveler Mark posted on LinkedIn that he looked forward to breakfast every day, especially the congee bar. They’re good with special diets too – vegan and gluten-free options are easy to spot, which even got a shoutout from hospitality experts.

Renaissance Yu Garden Hotel location and nearby attractions

The location? Couldn’t be better.

Just five minutes walk to Yu Garden – you’ll love getting lost in the old buildings and busy markets. Hop in a cab and you’re at the Bund in ten minutes.

Getting around was a breeze – metro station close by, or just call a Didi. An Aussie family blogged that the concierge knew all the best tea places for kids. Most travelers choose this hotel because you can walk to all the big attractions.

Renaissance Yu Garden Hotel spa and wellness facilities

After a busy day, their spa is the perfect place to unwind. Try their Jade Stone Therapy – warm stones that make stress disappear. I slept like a baby after.

Gym’s open all day with top-notch gear, and the pool has amazing city views. Fitness blogger Lisa loved how they serve herbal teas by the pool after workouts – nice little detail. Spa experts actually ranked this hotel in China’s top 10 city retreats.

Renaissance Yu Garden Hotel business and event services

They’ve got eight meeting rooms and a huge ballroom for 300 – perfect for business events. Went to a tech conference there – great AV gear and lighting made everything look awesome.

Love their eco-friendly meeting program – even the catering cuts down on waste. One big company’s event planner said the tech team saved them a whole day of setup time. Most business guests come back – like 9 out of 10.

Got kids? They do connecting rooms and cute kids meals – think dino-shaped dumplings. When my cousin visited, staff gave her twins handmade kites – that kind of thing makes me a fan for life.

Mom blogger @WanderMom loved that their babysitters are Red Cross trained. Need a stroller or bottle warmer? Just ask – they even made a family travel magazine’s best list.

Renaissance Yu Garden Hotel sustainability initiatives

I’m big on green travel, and this hotel gets it right. No plastic waste here – even the toiletries come in earth-friendly packages.

They’ve even got herbs growing on the roof for the kitchens. They’re Green Key certified and recycle most of their waste. An eco expert praised how they reuse linens – setting the standard for city hotels.

Renaissance Yu Garden Hotel loyalty program benefits

Marriott members get good perks here. My Gold status once scored me a free upgrade to a suite with Pearl Tower views.

Use points for meals or spa time, and top members can check out late. One frequent traveler said a week’s stay earned points for two free nights. Members tend to spend more on extras like food and drinks.

Renaissance Yu Garden Hotel cultural activities and workshops

Here’s what really makes this hotel special – the cultural stuff. Took a calligraphy class there taught by an ex-museum curator – pretty cool.

They do tea ceremonies and dumpling classes too – experience local culture without going anywhere. Popular vlogger @ShanghaiSecrets made a hit video about their mooncake-making class. Even big newspapers have written about these unique hotel experiences.

Watch for special deals that come and go. Last winter I got a package with shopping discounts at nearby malls.

They’ve got accessible rooms with easy showers and low peepholes. When I brought my grandma, they even got us a sign language helper for theater tickets.

Renaissance Yu Garden Hotel pet policy and services

They’re pet friendly too! My dog Max got organic treats and a park map when we arrived. There’s a small cleaning fee, and they’ll even watch your pet if you need.

A dog blogger showed her pup eating special dog treats in the lobby. Just FYI, bigger dogs might need okay from the hotel first.

Renaissance Yu Garden Hotel guest reviews and ratings

Don’t believe me? Check out the stats. On TripAdvisor, it holds a 4.

5/5 from 2,300 reviews, with particular praise for the staff’s anticipatory service. If there’s one complaint, it’s that they could use more English TV channels. They really listen to guests – when people said the Wi-Fi was slow, they fixed it fast.

Bottom line? This hotel nails the mix of luxury and local flavor. Work or vacation, it’s the little things – like cultural classes and being green – that you’ll remember. Want to try it?
